Bloomingdale School of Music students star in “How We Do It” music video


Bloomingdale School of Music students Nia Hill and Maya Hill feature in Lani Luv and BoujeeBaby’s music video for the recently released single “How We Do It”, which features children expressing themselves artistically in their towns across music, dance, art, fashion and even sports.

Two sisters sharing a common passion for music, Nia Hill plays the viola and Maya Hill plays the violin in the video. They got involved in the project when video producer Maureen Aladin, founder of TWELVE18 Media, noticed the sisters at the BSM Performathon’s annual fundraiser. She asked the school to collaborate with some of the students, and when BSM’s executive director Erika Atkins suggested the Hills, she knew it was a perfect choice. In the video, the sisters really exhibit the range of capabilities of their instruments on the anthemic track.

“Bloomingdale is a place where people come to learn music and explore their art, but where they also end up developing key parts of themselves,” said Managing Director Erika Atkins. “This is just the start for our students, and Nia and Maya are definitive examples of that. They combined the skills and confidence they gained at Bloomingdale’s and went beyond our walls to share their brilliance. with the world. That’s what we’re doing here: giving our students the space to develop to their full potential. “

Maya Hill, violinist, has been playing the violin since grade 6 at Dr. Daniel Hale Williams School of the Arts. There she was in the chamber orchestra and is now a student at Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music with David West to the instructor where she is in the chamber orchestra. She is currently studying with Naho Parrini at Bloomingdale School of Music and is very grateful to her music teachers at Bloomingdale School of Music and Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music for their wonderful teaching and guidance over the past few years. Asked about the impact of music on her life, Maya replied, “No matter what language you speak, we can all be affected by the language of music.”

Nia Hill, violist / violinist, began her musical studies in 6th grade. Throughout college, she performed in her school’s orchestra for three consecutive years as the first president. She has also participated annually in NYSSMA, achieving excellent scores. Nia attended Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music and is currently studying at Bloomingdale School of Music, with Aundrey Mitchell and Mica Poerio, since 2018. She has also started sessions with the Chamber Music Center in New York, where he has been. presented with his group. during a tour of Tuscany in the summer of 2019. Other performances include appearances at music education festivals and galas, music competitions in parks, with Carnegie Hall professionals, and violist in the music video “How We Do It” by artist Lani Luv. She is currently a first year college student with a minor in musical performance and is looking to more musical endeavors. “Practice doesn’t make perfect, because perfection is impossible, but practice makes for better performance,” said Nia.
