#BuyBlackNB works to empower local black entrepreneurs

Among many events of historical significance, 2020 will be marked as the year of a long-awaited social awakening. Across the country, activists mobilized and community organizations were formed to be part of a growing movement for racial equity.

From the start, New Bedford became and remains the epicenter of this movement on the South Coast. Local leaders have taken on the wide range of causes to empower communities of color on the south coast, such as criminal justice reform, housing equity and, in the case of Buy From Black. NB, the promotion of entrepreneurship. Buy Black NB is an online platform dedicated to highlighting, discovering and promoting black-owned businesses on the South Coast.

In the year since its inception, the Buy Black NB directory has grown at a rapid pace, having discovered over 150 and counting black-owned businesses in the area that provide a comprehensive listing of goods. and services that meet all the needs of local consumers.

This year, Buy Black NB will be hosting its first in-person community event. “Black in Business” will be a pop-up marketplace featuring over 20 sellers directly from Buy Black NB. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Rotch-Jones-Duff House on County Street in New Bedford on June 19, also known as Juneteenth.
