Hamlet Set barbecue audition call December 13, 15 and 16, 2021
Jeannie Perkins officially announced this week his plans for the Main Street Theater grand reopening in January 2022, followed next weekend by the first live stage production since February 2020. And, for those interested, an audition call is scheduled for next week for the March Manufacturing project.
The brick facade is finished. Most of the electrical installations were completed. Community players were still waiting last week for the water to be restored and for new doors and windows to be installed at the Main Street Theater at 225 Main Street.
âOur excitement is just a little more than Christmas,â said Perkins.
The Heroes, featuring Grammy Award-winning artist Brad Davis and longtime collaborator Joel Weaver, will host both nights of the Main Street Theater grand reopening.
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7 p.m. The intermission during the concert will be extended a little longer than usual to allow patrons to visit the artists of Commerce.
Horse-drawn carriage rides will also be available courtesy of The Barn of Emory during the grand reopening. Liquid refreshments will be available at the PhinessÃ© Farms. Hors d’oeuvres and desserts will also be available for participants.

The week after the restored theater’s grand reopening, Community Players is set to perform its first production on Main Street Stage since 2020.
“Charley’s Aunt”, a comedic farce by Brandon Thomas is scheduled for January 21-23 and January 28-30, under the direction of Lloyd Turney., With Rhiannon Smith as assistant director. Cast and crew include Ryan Wilson, Alex Delgado, Debby Clay, Chris Utt, Brian Deterding, Tosha Utt, Elizabeth Money, John D’Avignon, Barbara Grubbs and Grace Mansfield. The scenography and lighting design are by David Woody.
December casting call
Auditions for “Barbecue Hamlet” will take place next week. You need 5 to 6 males and 7 females. The comedy will be co-directed by young actress Grace Mansfield and Barbara Grubbs.
Although auditions will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday December 13, Wednesday December 15 and Thursday December 6, those planning to audition are asked to send an email [emailÂ protected] to make a hearing appointment. Other dates may be available, if needed.
Hamlet BBQ is scheduled to be played March 18-20 and March 25-27.
Main Street Theater vice president of membership Perkins also announced that the venue is already booked for other events.
âCommunity Players has drafted a new business document that will be used by outside artists to rent the Main Street Theater. This will allow for other forms of use and will open the theater for more weekends to accommodate the growing nightlife at Sulfur Springs, âexplained Perkins.
Other events scheduled to come in 2022 include:
- Friday February 11- Fashion show, coordinated by Marlene DeYoung,
- Saturday February 12 – Jazz with artists from Sulfur Springs, JB and Jeff Smith; Les Fermes PhinessÃ© will also offer wine during the event. Horse-drawn carriage rides will be offered by The Barn of Emory.
- Second weekend of February – Pieces from another source are also in the works for the second week of February, according to Perkins.
- March 18-20 and March 25-27 – Community players will perform “Barbecue Hamlet”.
- 2 weekends in April – Home school association product, title to be determined
- Summer 2022 – Students from the Theater Arts Colleges will host this year’s Children’s Summer Workshop at the Main Street Theater.
