Ice fisherman captures rare video of wolves stalking coyote: “Scary, surreal”

HEYDEN, ONTARIO – Talk about a heartbreaking experience he says he will never forget. Ryan Thorburn captured this video showing two wolves chasing a coyote, everything happening right in front of him.

Thorburn had just finished ice fishing last Wednesday in Heyden, Ont. It’s near Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where Thorburn, an emergency room nurse, is from. He says he was packing his gear when suddenly he saw the coyote running away from two wolves in the distance and they were coming straight towards him.

“They ran right in front of me, the one right in front of me you see in the video, then the second wolf behind me, Thorburn told MLive. “The one behind me stopped and looked at me. It scared me because I don’t trust wolves. It was definitely a surreal experience.

Thorburn says he’s never seen anything like it before and says what he saw was quite spectacular. He said he actually saved the coyote by scaring the wolves with his snowmobile.

“They jumped on the coyote, but my snowmobile scared them. The wolves then went one way and the coyote another.

Thorburn says that although the coyote ran away, he was injured, saying he limped away.
