Lake Hill Elementary wins National Music Competition

The prize is accompanied by a prize of $ 3,000 in gift certificates and a gold record plaque.

A music program from Victoria won its category in the annual Canadian Music Class Challenge, while two others placed among the best in the national competition.

Lake Hill Elementary won the Primary Instrumental category at CBC Music’s annual Music Class Challenge, taking home a top prize of $ 3,000 in gift certificates as well as a gold disc plaque for the classroom or trophy display case from school.

The Primary Orff Club of Lake Hill, under the direction of teacher Yra Binstead, won the award for their interpretation of Quebec folk song, It is rowing. The grade 2 and 3 students, who performed the song in French, chose the tune from a pre-approved list of Canadian songs provided by the CBC, which is running the contest in partnership with the charity MusiCounts.

“A great achievement at such a young age,” said Judge Jasmine Denham, Juno Award-nominated songwriter and producer for CBC Music. “Great job, Lake Hill Elementary!”

Arbutus Global Middle School placed third in the Junior Vocal (Grades 7-10) category, while Fraser Campbell Music School received an honorable mention in the Community / Independent / Private School Class category.
