Midcoast Music Academy Celebrates 10th Anniversary – Knox County VillageSoup

ROCKLAND/ROCKPORT — The Midcoast Music Academy invites the public to celebrate 10 years of music and community on Sunday, June 12 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. outdoors at Waterworks Restaurant, 7 Lindsey Street, Rockland. Musical performances by alumni and a fantastic faculty jam will be followed by a dance party featuring The Right Track.

Founded in 2012 in Rockland by Berklee College of Music alumnus Tom Ulichny, the contemporary music school has grown from a single instructor and classroom space to an expanded studio space with beautiful ensemble rooms on Main Street in Rockland, to a bustling school building of its own in Rockport, with seven instructors and over 170 students. A community music school in its very essence, its students range in age from 6 to 76 years old. In 2018, the school became a non-profit charitable organization, which allowed it to further strengthen its scholarship program to meet the needs of the community.

For the past 10 years, MCMA has been honored to include world-class teaching artists on its faculty. With a dedication to high quality music education, MCMA’s mission is to harness the power of making music with and for others, regardless of financial constraints, through teaching, performance, and community programming. Music is a universal language and MCMA values the opportunity to help all students master this language. To that end, they incorporate the fundamentals of music – theory, notation, and auditory training – into all of their classes. This balance between pleasure and theory is at the heart of their work.

Among other shows, MCMA students have performed at Rock City Café, Rockland’s Summer Solstice Street Party, Blue in Portland, Bagaduce Music’s Young Composers Festival & Competition, Maine Academy of Modern Music’s MAMM Slam, Farnsworth Art Museum, Rockland’s Lobster Festival, countless school concerts and musicals, and have opened the North Atlantic Blues Festival every year since 2016.

MCMA 10th Anniversary tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for students, with a family maximum of $100. Pizza by Uproot Pie Co. will be available, as well as a cash bar by Waterworks. Tickets can be purchased in person at MCMA (821 Commercial St., Rockport), Graffam Brothers Seafood (211 Union St., Rockport) or Curator Consignment (383 Main St., Rockland); online at midcoastmusicacademy.com/events; or at the door.
