Monday Mix: Saya Grey, Built to Spill, Naima Bock

This single from Canadian-Japanese musician Saya Gray is the first of two tracks to be released from her highly anticipated debut album ’19 MASTERS’. He delightfully sets the table with dazzling production and smooth vocals. “The song was an inner dialogue of my mental state at the time, pushing me into a box of who I felt I needed to be in order to thrive,” Gray said.

“Gonna Lose” comes from Built to Spill’s first new album in seven years. “When the Wind Forgets Your Name” is due out September 9 via iconic Seattle label, Sub Pop. The veteran rock band from the North West seems more relevant than ever here, propelled by a wall of fuzzy guitar reverb. The album was produced by founding member Doug Martsch and mixed with artist duo Lê Almeida João Casaes and Josh Lewis, with whom the band collaborated on a Brazilian tour.

Former Goat Girl member Naima Bock has recently become a compelling solo artist. His debut album “Giant Palm” is released on July 1. The title track of the disc relies on the sonic synergy between Bock’s voice and the instrumentation provided by producer Joel Burton. “We named the album after this song because it was the one that most reflected our collaboration as musicians and the innocence and freedom that characterized the making of the record,” Bock explained.
