NCPA Announces Inauguration of SHRUTINANDAN Music Center of Excellence NCPA

The National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA), India’s premier performing arts institute, announces the inauguration of the ‘SHRUTINANDAN NCPA Center of Excellence in Music’, a music academy dedicated to the preservation, propagation and perpetuation of Indian music. The academy is in association with Shrutinandan of Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, Kolkata, and is supported by the Tata Group.

With the ultimate goal of creating outstanding performers of music across different genres, the ‘SHRUTINANDAN NCPA Center of Excellence in Music’ will train students not to be limited to typical Gharana-based classical music. It will also form and develop Indianism and Indian values through humanity.

Dr. Suvarnalata Rao, Head of Indian Music at NCPA, mentioned, “The NCPA has a long-standing association with Ajoyji and is pleased to announce the SHRUTINANDAN NCPA Center of Excellence in Music. We sincerely believe that he is the most qualified to bring this initiative to life. The academy will help build musical foundations in children and encourage them to pursue their ambitions in the field. Today, with the establishment of this center, with the unique mission of creating the next generation of performers to advance the Indian musical tradition, we believe that we have reached an important milestone in the history of the NCPA and that we we are able to fulfill, at least to some extent, the dreams of our founding fathers.”

Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty adds, Shrutinandan is a one-of-a-kind institution in India specially designed for children. We had great musical talents in our country like Ustad Bismillah Khan Sahib, MS Subbulakshmi ji, Lata Mangeshkar ji. With their contribution in mind, I have designed a scientific training process to create the next generation of great performers, through my research over the past four decades. This training system is experimentally proven by Shrutinandan. By establishing the SHRUTINANDAN NCPA Center of Excellence in Music, the extension of Shrutinandan, I will try to bring exceptionally gifted students to the level of learned, competent and professional artists. I am grateful to the NCPA for helping me with a beautiful venue and also to the Tata Group for their greatness through financial and overall assistance. I am obligated to these two great organizations.

Founded in 1997, Shrutinandan is a highly respected classical music school conceptually developed by classical music pioneer, Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty. He is not only a performer of perennial music of India, both Hindustani and Carnatic, but he is also a teacher who focuses on sustainable development in all fields such as education and music . To date, Shrutinandan has produced over fifty high quality young musicians who are performing nationally all over India and abroad.
