New principals, primary school principals

Fort Smith Public Schools have announced a series of new administrative hires for the 2021-22 school year.

Tony Smith, Director of Secondary Education

Tony Jones will serve as Director of Secondary Education for Fort Smith Public Schools. Jones has been Principal of the Belle Point Center since 2018. He has also worked as an Assistant Principal for both Northside High School and Kimmons Junior High School. He started his career as an educator at Northside High School.

Jones replaces Ginni McDonald, who was recently appointed Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives and Professional Learning.

“I am honored to serve as principal of secondary education,” Jones said in a press release. “I look forward to helping every high school campus achieve higher levels of excellence.”

Jennifer Steele will be the Assistant Director of Sports and Activities for the Fort Smith Public School District.  Steele has been Deputy Principal of Northside High School since 2013.

Jennifer Steele will be the assistant director of sports and activities for the district. Steele has been Deputy Principal of Northside High School since 2013 and previously worked as Director of Musical Groups at Chaffin Junior High School. This is a new position within the Athletics & Activities department.

Laura Gladden will be the principal of Ballman Elementary School.  Gladden has been Deputy Director of Ballman and Bonneville since 2018.

Laura Gladden is the new principal of Ballman Elementary School. Gladden has been Deputy Principal of Ballman and Bonneville since 2018. She has also worked as a district education facilitator and elementary and middle school teacher in Van Buren and Hendersonville, North Carolina. Gladden replaces Lori Griffin, who was recently appointed director of elementary education.

“I am honored to transition to this new role at Ballman and continue my service within the district, Gladden said.

Ami Griggs will be the new principal of Fairview Elementary School.  Griggs has been Deputy Director of Fairview since 2019.

Ami Griggs will be the principal of Fairview Elementary School. Griggs has been a vice-principal of Fairview since 2019. She has also worked as a literacy facilitator for Ballman, Bonneville, Fairview and Morrison Elementary Schools and as a teacher at Euper Lane Elementary School. Griggs replaces Nicole Shaffer.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve the students and families of Fairview in this leadership role,” said Griggs.

Nicole Shaffer will be the principal of Cook Elementary School.  Shaffer was a senior Air Force officer with the 188th Fighter Wing Maintenance Group before beginning his career in education.

Nicole Shaffer will be the principal of Cook Elementary School. Shaffer has been Principal of Fairview Elementary School since 2019. Prior to working at Fairview, Shaffer served as Deputy Principal of Cook, Woods and Barling Elementary Schools, as District Supervisor of Elementary Music Education. She has taught at Sunnymede Elementary School, as well as schools in Lavaca and Panama, Oklahoma. Shaffer will replace Marna Boltuc.

Shaffer was a senior Air Force officer with the 188th Fighter Wing Maintenance Group before beginning his career in education.

“I enjoyed my time at Fairview Elementary School very much and look forward to continuing to serve the district at Cook Elementary School,” Shaffer said.

Christopher Davis, a graduate of Northside High School, has been selected as the Assistant Director of Human Resources and Campus Support for Fort Smith Public Schools.  Davis has been the District Human Resources Supervisor since 2019.

It was announced early last week that Christopher Davis will be the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Campus Support for Fort Smith Public Schools. Davis has been the District Human Resources Supervisor since 2019. Davis will replace Sherri Penix.
