AUBURN – Daniel Albert Kirouac, 68, of Auburn, Maine, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 7, 2022, at his home.
Dan was born in Lewiston, Maine on October 26, 1953, to Paul J. Kirouac and Dorilda M. (Cote) Kirouac and was educated at Lewiston Schools.
Dan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and after completing Boot Camp, attended Field Music School in Parris Island, SC, and was recognized for his performance as both a musician and Marine . He was selected as the third graduate of his promotion. After field music school, he auditioned and was accepted into “The Commander’s Own”. The United States Drum and Bugle Corps in Washington, DC “The Commanders Own” is the only active duty drum and bugle corps currently serving in our armed forces. He performed for many dignitaries during his service. Dan received a certificate in recognition of his participation in the presidential inauguration of Richard M. Nixon in January 1973.
After his military service, Dan built a career as a master plumber beginning with his apprenticeship with his father-in-law Lionel Côté at Ted Walker Inc and eventually opening his own business as DAK Plumbing and Heating.
Dan enjoyed traveling to Tennessee to spend time with his beloved son and his family. He was thinking of the world of his grandchildren. He was an accomplished drummer. Along with his love of music, Dan enjoyed watching the Red Sox, New England Patriots but was most of all a devoted Montreal Canadiens fan and enjoyed a romantic rivalry with his son Allen who is a devoted Bruins fan.
Dan is survived by his son Allen Kirouac and his wife Amber; grandchildren, Brendan, Jazzmine, Piper and Dawson, sister Diane St Amand and husband Jack, ex-wife Diane Kirouac, brothers-in-law Donald Cote and wife Kim, Paul Cote and wife Louise and Roger Cote and life partner Lisa Mullen, nieces and nephews Jessica Green and her fiancé Stephen McLaughlin, Dawn Michelle Kelley, Angela Wojcik, Kara Cougle and her husband Tim, Chandra Elliott, Olivia Rossignol and her husband Logan, Tom Cote and his wife Michelle, Justin Cote and his life partner Scott Alexander, great-nieces and nephews Kayden and Mariah Kirouac, Landon Cougle and Cameron Sturgis, godson Jarrod Dostie and close friend John Ellis.
He was predeceased by father Paul J Kirouac, mother Dorilda M Kirouac, brother Michael Kirouac, father-in-law Lionel Côté and mother-in-law Blanche Côté.
Dan will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
