Seven agencies causing a sensation on the music scene

Hybe continued to grow through acquisitions and restructurings, adding several subsidiaries.

The company announced in March that it plans to increase its business portfolio to bring people together through music. The heavyweight of the music industry is also aiming to enter the international market with its range of labels.

The company owns some of the biggest names in the Korean and global music scene, including megastars like BTS and Seventeen.

Here is a list of seven subsidiaries under the Hybe umbrella.

K-pop star BTS (Big Hit Music)

Big Hit Music, formerly Big Hit Entertainment, is South Korea’s premier entertainment management agency, home to K-pop superstars like BTS and Tomorrow x Together. The Hybe-revamped agency was founded by Bang Si-hyuk, the mastermind behind the two A-listers, in February 2005.

On April 1, Hybe announced his separation from Big Hit Entertainment. The commercial division, a merger between Hybe IP and Hybe 360, ultimately created Big Hit Music. Hybe owns a 100 percent stake in the new subsidiary.

The agency’s label took its first steps in the industry by signing the singing trio 8eight in 2007, its first artist. The company added more to its roster when it signed a joint management contract with JYP Entertainment to co-manage boy group 2AM in 2010.

In the same year, producer Bang held auditions across the country and made RM the first member of BTS. The seven singers debuted under Big Hit Entertainment in June 2013. Five years later, the label released their second boy group, Tomorrow x Together, in March 2019.

The subsidiary label mainly focuses on music production, artist management and communication with fans. He says he gives his artists the best working environment and shares the best content with fans.

After achieving immense success with both groups, Big Hit, once a meager recruit to the industry, has successfully grown into a global music giant.

Founded in 2007 by Han Sung-soo, Pledis Entertainment is one of South Korea’s leading K-pop agencies, home to artists from around the world like Seventeen and NU’EST.

Singer-turned-actress Son Dam-bi was the first artist to debut with the agency in 2007, with her song “Cry Eye”. Two years later, the agency launched their first girl group, After School. She formed a sub-unit, Orange Caramel, along with her bandmates Nana, Lizzy and Raina, in 2010 to expand her presence as a leading agency in the Korean music scene. In 2011, the company established two more sub-units of After School – AS Red and AS Blue.

The company presented their first boy group NU’EST in 2012 with the single “Face”. The same year, the label joined forces with the artistic agency Fantagio and created a six-part number, Hello Venus.

In 2015, the thirteen-member group Seventeen made their debut in May 2015 with their debut mini album, “17 Carat”. Today, the music of the K-pop juggernaut takes them all over the world. The last group launched by the agency-label was the 10-member Pristin group in March 2017, although the group has since disbanded.

Big Hit Entertainment welcomed Pledis Entertainment under its umbrella on May 20, 2020, when it acquired 50% of the shares of Pledis Entertainment and an additional 35% on June 9.

The name of the label comes from the “Pleiades”, a group of more than 800 stars located about 410 light years from Earth in the constellation Taurus.

Source Music was created in November 2009 by So Sung-jin, former talent manager of K-pop powerhouse SM Entertainment and was also previously at H2 Entertainment.

The music agency has managed the popular girl group GFriend since its debut in 2015. The six-piece act is the first group that the label has only planned and produced since its inception and has supported the group until it was founded. they bid farewell to fans in May.

The group landed several rookie awards after setting foot in the music industry and immediately rose to stardom since. The agency and the group have left an indelible mark in an industry where the actions of small businesses have rarely been highlighted by the public.

The company had a long history of partnering with Big Hit Entertainment, even before making it onto Big Hit Entertainment’s roster on July 29, 2019.

The agency’s label launched a five-member Glam with Big Hit in July 2012 with the single “Party (XXO)”, though the act decided to go their separate ways in 2015. Source Music also co-managed the 8eight vocal trio, consisting of Lee Hyun, Joo-hee and Baekchan, and previously solo artist Kan Mi-yeon.

Since its founding, the company has operated as a record label, arts agency, music production company and music publisher.

The company hopes to gain a foothold in the music industry with the intention of launching a new girl group. Last year, the label held an audition under the slogan “2020 Untact Global Audition” in December. More details on the group have yet to be revealed.

Koz Entertainment, which stands for “King of the Zungle”, is a South Korean music agency founded by K-pop artist and producer Zico in November 2018.

The popular 29-year-old rapper started his entertainment company with the goal of carving out a solid presence in hip-hop and underground R&B.

The hip-hop label currently offers trendy ranges. The agency first started out as the self-established agency of the main hip-hop soloist, representing the rapper himself. But he then added another singer-songwriter, Dvwn, and teamed up with revered industry figures like cheesy musician and beatmaker Giriboy, to his roster in November 2019.

The 3-year start-up agency intends to go global with its musicians and increase its music production capabilities. Although Zico took a two-year hiatus to complete his alternative child care service, the door to Koz Entertainment has remained wide open for all of the aspiring K-pop stars.

The company puts its artists and content at the forefront and makes innovation and excellence in the music industry its core values.

It officially became a subsidiary of Hybe on November 18, 2020 and is headed by Yoo Seung-hyun.

Hybe Labels Japan

Hybe Labels Japan is an entertainment company based in Tokyo, Japan. It premiered on September 29, 2017 under the name Big Hit Entertainment Japan until it changed its name on March 20, 2021. Hybe owns a 100% stake in the Japanese label.

Han Hyun-rok, previously Managing Director of Hybe Solutions Japan, has been chosen to lead the Japanese unit. The Japan-centric label’s services include music production, music publishing, music copyright management, artist management, and talent research and development. He plans to amplify the brand by reading features unique to the Japanese music market.

Boy group Hybe Japan, a temporary name for the group, is an upcoming J-pop group under the label. The multinational group currently consists of Nicholas, K, EJ and Taki.

To add to the excitement, the label reached out to hopefuls of male singers around the world to finalize production on their new unnamed boy group. Earlier this year, the agency held its “Hybe Labels Japan Debut Project” audition in January to recruit additional band mates for the group which is expected to appear sometime in 2021.

Belift Laboratory

Belift Lab, also known as “BE: LIFT”, is a joint venture between South Korean entertainment giant CJ ENM and Big Hit Entertainment established in August 2018 with a capital of approximately 7 billion won ($ 6.13 million) .

The two giants have teamed up with the goal of creating K-pop acts and producing better songs. CJ ENM supports the company in TV shows, concerts and music streaming platforms, while Hybe oversees the K-pop group launch process.

The Hybe branch is home to K-pop rookie Enhyphen, the agency’s only actor, who made his debut with the single “Given-Taken” in November 2020 from the Mnet competition program “I-Land”.

Hybe America

Hybe America, formerly known as Big Hit America, was founded on April 26, 2019, with its headquarters in the United States.

CEO Yoon Suk-joon and Scooter Braun took the helm of the Korean entertainment giant’s 100% U.S. subsidiary earlier this month.

Under the guidance of the two gurus, Yoon aims to implant K-pop business models in the US market by training interns through intensive training and diversified marketing strategies. Braun plans to expand the company’s presence and competitiveness in the US music market.

In April 2021, Hybe announced that he would buy all of Big Hit America’s stock valued at an estimated 1.7 trillion won, in order to increase its stake in the US market. Following the news, Hybe later announced that he would acquire a 100% stake in Ithaca Holdings worth around 1.07 trillion won through the label’s US arm with the ambition of breaking down cultural barriers. and transcend borders.

Ithaca Holdings, home to pop stars Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, is an American media company run by Scooter Braun operating in the music, film and television industries.
