Several concerts at ECSU this fall

October 14 – WILLIMANTIC – A wide variety of concerts will take place at Eastern Connecticut State University this fall.

All events will take place in the Fine Arts Education Center (FAIC) Concert Hall unless otherwise stated, and most are free and open to the public.

—The Thread City Jazz Trio will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday as part of the Faculty Recital Series. Anthony Cornicello plays piano, Rick O’Neal plays bass and Matt Bronson plays drums during the free concert.

—The Percussion Ensemble Concert, a free show, will take place on Friday, November 4 at 7:30 p.m. It will feature works for a large percussion ensemble, a chamber percussion ensemble, a world percussion ensemble and a steel band.

— The Eastern Opera Workshop will present “An Evening with Kurt Weill” in the lobby of the Center for Fine Arts Education on Friday, November 18 at 2:30 p.m. Scenes and areas from Weil’s operas will be performed, including “Street Scene”, “Knickerbocker Holiday”, and “The Threepenny Opera”.

—The Eastern Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will perform world music at the “Postcard Concert” on Sunday, November 20 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are required to attend the show. Tickets are $10 for the general public, $7 for faculty, staff and alumni, and $5 for seniors 62 and older. Tickets are free for students from the East, as well as students from other universities and all guests under the age of 18. Tickets can be purchased at the Easternct.

—A studio piano recital on Monday, November 21 at 3 p.m. will highlight student pianists. The concert is free.

—Students will perform at The Jazz Ensemble & Jazz Combo Concert on Monday, November 28 at 7:30 p.m. Jazz Combo, a student-led ensemble, will perform their interpretations of jazz standards. The group is led by two student directors, Evan Wood and Evan Gianfriddo, both from the class of 2025. The Jazz Ensemble is led by Cornicello.

“Student chamber ensembles will perform at the Student Chamber Music Recital on Monday, December 5 at 7:30 p.m. Performances will include songs from the Baroque period to the present day.

— The Eastern Concert Band will perform the music of contemporary composers Kevin Day, Omar Thomas and David Maslanka on Wednesday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. This is the first performance by a full orchestra in over two years.

—The Willimantic Orchestra will perform its fall concert on Sunday, December 11 at 5 p.m. For more concert information, visit willimanticorchestra. org.

On Wednesday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m., the Eastern Concert Band will perform exciting music by contemporary composers Kevin Day, Omar Thomas and David Maslanka. Students, faculty, staff and community musicians from across the region will gather for the first sold-out concert in over two years.

On Sunday, December 11 at 5 p.m., the Orchester Willimantic will present its fall concert.
