CLEVELAND, Ohio – Get ready to rock: The Tri-C High School Rock Off has opened entries for its 2022 contest, and to celebrate, some Rock Off alumni will be putting on a free show on August 11.
The show will feature former Rock-Off winners, Detention, Grenon, Lil ‘G. Fresh and Assault, as well as School of Rock. The show kicks off Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Rock Hall Plaza.
Whether or not they are present at the kick-off, young rock stars are encouraged to apply for the Rock-Off 2022 competition. The application is now open to rockhall.com/rockoff.
The next competition follows a cancellation in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This year’s Tri-C High School Rock Off features multiple performance dates: January 22, January 29, February 5, and the “final exam” on February 12.
Musicians and bands of all genres can enter the competition with samples of their music on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame website. According to a press release, groups must be at least 50% high school students, and all performers must be enrolled in school (grade 12 and under) to be eligible. An entrance fee of $ 60 is required.
Candidates selected to continue will then be able to take the stage for a 15-minute performance in the rock-off semi-finals, where three will be chosen to take the final exam. The winning group receives $ 1,000 and $ 250 for their high school music program, while the second place winner receives $ 250 and $ 100 for their high school music program. The third place winner receives $ 100.
The deadline for this year’s rock off is 5 p.m. on Friday, December 10.
